Exit Cinnabar Island Gym and you'll run into your rival. Fly to Viridian City with Sky Dash. Heal up if you'd like, then head to the gym on the north side of town. You'll meet your rival again and he'll take you to Professor Oak. Blue will also be here, and he'll give you a Key Stone. This will allow for Mega Evolution, which can be done once per battle if you have a Mega Stone for the Pokemon you wish to Mega Evolve. You'll then be given Venusaurite, Blastoisinite, Charizardite X, and Charizardite Y. Fly back to Viridian City.

Head back to the gym, which is now open. This is a Ground-type gym, so we recommend bringing a Grass, Water, or Ice type to gain an advantage. Take the tile to the left, battling Tamer Cole if you'd like. Now take the tile facing right and battle Ace Trainer Samuel. Go left and then take the blue tile facing right when you've stopped. Battle Tamer Jason and Black Belt Takashi. Continue forward for the gym leader or head right to battle Ace Trainer Yuji and pick up a Revive. Follow the same path as before, this time taking the left route to battle Ace Trainer Kelly.

Now head to Viridian City Gym Leader Giovanni. He of course uses Ground-type Pokemon, a Water or Grass type leveled in the mid-50s should steamroll his team. He has a Lv. 49 Dugtrio, a Lv. 50 Rhydon, a Lv. 49 Nidoking, and a Lv. 49 Nidoqueen. For your victory, you will receive the Earth Badge as well as TM41 - Earthquake.
