Chapter 1: Beach
Introduction
After picking your name and going through Professor Oak’s intro monologue, you will be prompted to enter the first course.
The Beach
Immediately upon entering the stage, the game will take you through a tutorial explaining the basic controls. Press L (or your controller’s equivalent) to ready your camera, and be ready to photograph the Doduo that will burst out of the left side of the stage a few seconds after the tutorial. To your right will be a Pikachu, standing conveniently next to a surfboard. We can use this Pikachu to get an even better photo later, but for now just snap it as is.
To your right, there are multiple opportunities to snap Butterfree as they fly around. But, your more immediate concern should be the singular Lapras that has a chance to spawn in the sea to your right. If it does spawn, make sure to take a picture of it. This will be important later.
As the stage continues, there will be a Meowth on top of a stone pillar making rude gestures. Snap a picture of it, while taking note of the rustling leaves to your left. Afterwards, there is an Eevee chasing a pink ball. Snap the Eevee, and add the pink ball to your list of things to come back for.
To your right, in the sea, there is a chance that two more Lapras will spawn. If you photograph both of them, being sure that you have the red dot in the center of your cursor for both of them, you will receive a rare opportunity later in the course. There will also be a Kangaskhan to your right, which, again, we will save for later. However, snap a picture of its back for now.
If you took advantage of every opportunity to snap the Lapras earlier in the level, they will appear to your right near the end of the level. Proceed through the portal at the end of the level.
Professor Oak
Professor Oak has very specific qualifications for giving you points. The following modifiers are taken into account when Oak looks at your photos.
- Size (Big and close, but not too close)
- Pose (If applicable, this includes which way the Pokemon is facing)
- Number of Pokemon (If applicable, the more the better!)
- Technique (Adds a times 2 multiplier if the Pokemon is in the center)
- Great item and weapon variety and balance
- Special Modifiers (Including special poses, and other miscellaneous modifiers)
Using these qualifications, Oak will rate your photographs, and, if you did everything right, unlock the Tunnel stage for your exploration.
