Pokemon Database
This Pokemon Snap Pokemon Database details the location and method of taking the best picture of every Pokémon and serves as a list of Pokemon in Pokemon Snap. For a step-by-step guide on completing Pokemon Snap and catching every Pokémon, check out our Pokemon Snap Walkthrough.
List of Pokemon in Pokemon Snap
Pokemon | Course | How to Get |

Butterfree | Beach | Butterfree are found scattered around the beginning of the course. At random points they will turn around in your direction, and that is when you take a picture of one. |
Lapras | Beach | At certain points Lapras will appear at the right in the sea. Pay attention to the ocean along the entire course and make sure to photograph them when they appear. You may need to retry the course several times, but eventually if all of them appear you will get the chance to photograph them all up close |
Meowth | Beach | Meowth can be found making faces at you near the beginning of the course. Photograph it doing this for the maximum possible points |
Doduo | Beach | Doduo can be photographed facing you using the dash engine to outrun it. |
Chansey | Beach | Chansey can be found about halfway through the course as a pink ball being chased by Eevee around several boulders. Hit it with a pester ball to make it unroll so you can photograph it. |
Kangaskhan | Beach | Kangaskhan can be found facing the seashore at first. Play the pokeflute to make it turn around so you can photograph it. |
Scyther | Beach | Scyther can be found rustling some bushes about halfway through the course. Throw pester balls at the bushes to make it emerge. |
Eevee | Beach | Eevee can be found about half way through the course running around some boulders. Photograph it as it is facing you. |
Snorlax | Beach | Snorlax can also be found about halfway through the course napping. Play the pokeflute to make it dance for the maximum possible points. |
Pidgey | Beach | Pidgey can be found flying around at various points in the course. |
Kakuna | Tunnel | Throw an apple at an electrode to make it explode, causing many Kakuna to drop from the ceiling near the beginning of the course. Photograph at least one in the center to get the most points. |
Pikachu | Beach, Tunnel, River, and Cave | Beach: Lure Pikachu over to its surfboard using Pokemon food to get a picture of surfing Pikachu. Tunnel: Photograph the Pikachu at the beginning of the course to make it roll on an electrode passing by. Photograph it this way for extra points. River: Snap a picture of the Pokemon on the logs near the end of the course. It'll get all hyper and start running around. Photograph it this way. Cave: Free Pikachu from Zubat's grasp by throwing a pester ball at it. Then wait til it reaches the egg below and play the pokeflute. If you did it correctly, Pikachu should fly on Articuno's back. Remember to photograph Pikachu here, not Articuno. |
Zubat | Tunnel and Cave | There are two opportunities in the Tunnel to get close up shots of Zubat as he flies towards you through the doors located throughout the stage. There is also an opportunity to get multiple Zubats in a shot in the Cave as they fly up during the beginning of the course. |
Diglett | Tunnel | Near the end of the stage Diglett and Pikachu will be communing together. Photograph them interacting for extra points. |
Dugtrio | Tunnel | As you are passing the Diglett and Pikachu communing, photograph the Diglett everytime it appears, eventually making it turn into a Dugtrio farther down the course than where it started. |
Magnemite | Tunnel | At the end of the course there will be many Magnemites in the same area. Stop them from avoiding your shots by using Pokemon Food. |
Magneton | Tunnel | Gather three Magnemites together using Pokemon food and use the top Magnemite to center your shot. Magneton will still require Pokemon food to photograph effectively. |
Haunter | Tunnel | Twice during the stage you will find floating purple orbs flying around in circles. These are actually Haunter, so photograph them while they fly towards you to get a straightforward shot. |
Electrode | Tunnel | Many Electrodes are found scattered throughout the beginning of the stage. Hit one with an apple to make it explode. Photograph it during the explosion for extra points. |
Electabuzz | Tunnel | Once you've reactivated the power plant, two Electabuzzes will be wandering around near the end of the stage where they were previously banging on the monitors. Lure them over with Pokemon food and photograph them. |
Magikarp | Every Stage excluding the Rainbow Cloud | At any point of the stage that includes water, throw a pester ball at it to make a Magikarp appear. |
Zapdos | Tunnel | About halfway through the stage you will see a giant egg. Lure the nearby Pikachu to that egg and use the pokeflute to make it shock the egg. Zapdos will soon hatch out of the egg, where you can photograph it. The Zapdos will fly over to the power generator and shock it, waking up the power plant and letting you get Electabuzz and the Tunnel's Pokemon sign. |
Charmander | Volcano | Near the end of the stage you will be stopped by the Moltres egg. Normally you'd want to knock it into the lava immediately, but in this case, let it stop you and start throwing Pokemon food to the Charmanders on the left. They will start calling more and more Charmanders. Lure all of the Charmanders near you and use the Pokeflute to make them dance. Photograph them this way for the maximum possible points. |
Charmeleon | Volcano | There are two opportunities to photograph Charmeleon. One is directly before the end of the stage, and the other near the middle, where you can lure a Charmander and a Magmar to the same Pokemon food and cause the Magmar to spit fire at the Charmander. This will cause the Charmander to evolve into a Charmeleon. |
Charizard | Volcano | Near the end of the stage there will be a Charmeleon walking around a pool of lava. Knock the Charmeleon into the pool to evolve it into a Charizard. |
Vulpix | Volcano | At various points near the beginning of the stage Vulpix will be walking around. Lure them to face you with Pokemon food for the most possible points. |
Growlithe | Volcano | Near the end of the course there will be three pools of magma near each other. Throw pester balls into the pools to reveal either a Growlithe or an Arcanine. |
Arcanine | Volcano | Near the end of the course there will be three pools of magma near each other. Throw pester balls into the pools to reveal either a Growlithe or an Arcanine. |
Rapidash | Volcano | At the very beginning of the stage a Rapidash will speed past you. Photograph this Rapidash and two others will appear, which you can also photograph for a nice point bonus. |
Magmar | Volcano | Near the end of the course, two Magmars are situated. Throw pokemon food in between them to make them fight. Photograph them in the midst of fighting for the maximum possible points. |
Moltres | Volcano | Near the middle of the stage you will come upon an egg. Hit it with pokemon food to knock it into the lava and make it hatch. Photograph it facing you for the maximum possible points. |
Bulbasaur | River | Near the beginning of the stage you will see Bulbasaur's bud-like back coming out of a log. Throw pester balls at the two Bulbasaurs there and use Pokemon food to lure them and get the best shot. |
Metapod | River | Near the middle of the course these pod-like Pokemon can be found dangling from a tree. Hit them down with pester balls for the best shot. |
Vileplume | River | Found near the middle of the stage, this Pokemon can be seen as a flower-esque object spewing out smoke. Use the pokeflute to reveal it as Vileplume. |
Psyduck | River | Psyduck can be found wading in the water at several points throughout the stage. Hit them with pester balls to make them go into the water and jump up in a spectacular fashion. |
Poliwag | River | Poliwag is found at the very beginning of the stage. Hit the first Polywag down and into the water to make it jump in a spectacular fashion that'll award you with extra points. |
Slowpoke | River | Slowpokes are found at various points throughout the stage. Simply photograph them as you pass by. |
Slowbro | River | Lure a Slowpoke over to a Shellder sign to make it fish in the water with its tail. In a few seconds, it will evolve into a Slowbro. |
Shellder | River | Shellder can be seen jumping out of the water at various points in the stage. |
Cloyster | River | A single Cloyster will jump out of the water near the very end of the stage. |
Porygon | River | Near the end of the course small triangle like objects moving up and down out of the cliff side. Hit them with pester balls to make two Porygons appear. Photograph them together for the maximum possible points. |
Jigglypuff | Cave | At various points in the course Jigglypuffs will be carried by Koffings around you. Hit the koffings with pester balls to make them release the Jigglypuffs. You will then find the Jigglypuffs singing at the end of the stage. |
Weepinbell | Cave | About halfway through the course a Weepinbell will be strolling around a pool of water. Photograph it as it is facing you. |
Victreebell | Cave | Knock the previously mentioned Weepinbell into the water to make it evolve into Victreebell. |
Grimer | Cave | Photograph the two Grimers to your left at the start of the course and another grimer will appear just below a ledge later on. |
Muk | Cave | Hit the previously mentioned Grimer with 3-5 pester balls to make it evolve into a Muk. |
Koffing | Cave | Several Koffings can be found carrying Jigglypuffs throughout the course. |
Jynx | Cave | two Jynxes are found near the end of the stage brushing their hair. Use the pokeflute to get the best possible shot. |
Ditto | Cave | Every Bulbasaur found during the course will turn into a Ditto when hit with a pester ball |
Articuno | Cave | Articuno will hatch out of the crystal-esque egg near the end of the course once you play the pokeflute for the Jynx below. Photograph it as hovers above the egg and makes a show for the best possible point value. |
Squirtle | Valley | Knock the shells at the beginning of the course onto dry land and use the pokeflute for the best possible shot. |
Sandshrew | Valley | Knocking down the Geodudes clinging onto various walls in the course will make these Pokemon appear and allow you to photograph them. |
Sandslash | Valley | Knocking down Gravellers will make these Pokemon appear out of the ground. |
Mankey | Valley | At the end of the course, a Mankey will be jumping up and down on top of a hill. Hit it down with a nearby Squirtle shell using a pester ball and take a picture of the Mankey on the lower ledge. |
Geodude | Valley | Geodudes can be found throughout the course clinging onto walls. Hit them down with pester balls for the best possible shot. |
Graveler | Valley | Near the beginning of the course you will find two Geodudes hanging onto a wall with a Graveler up above them. Hit down the two Geodudes to knock down the Graveler and get the best shot. |
Goldeen | Valley | Throw a pester ball into the water near the beginning of the course to make Goldeen jump out. |
Staryu | Valley | A Staryu will begin flying around you as you descend deeper into the Valley. Spam photographs to get a decent shot. |
Starmie | Valley | Eventually, all the Staryus will combine into a Starmie and fly away. Photograph the Starmie as it flies away. |
Gyarados | Valley | Near the beginning of the stage you will see a Magikarp jumping out of the water. Hit the place where it jumps with a pester ball to make it jump out and flop towards a nearby Mankey who will punch it away. Later on in the course, near a waterfall, look to your left to see the very same Magikarp. Hit it again to make it go into the nearby waterfall and evolve into Gyarados. |
Dratini | Valley | Near the whirlpool at the end of the stage you can throw a pester ball into the water and a Dratini will appear. |
Dragonite | Valley | Throw pester balls into the actual whirlpool at the end of the stage to make Dragonite appear. |
Mew | Rainbow Cloud | After you have collected all of the Pokémon Signs you will be granted access to the Rainbow Cloud. There is only 1 Pokemon in the Rainbow Cloud, and that is Mew. Basically the key to this is to hit the bubble with pester balls or Pokemon food whenever the chance arises. After a suitable amount of times broken, Mew will turn around and look at you when she is chasing her bubble. Photograph Mew then for the most possible points. |
