Pokemon Scarlet Violet The Teal Mask

The upcoming DLC The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet got an overview and release date in the latest Pokemon Presents. It's coming in two parts: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk.

Pokemon Scarlet Violet The Loyal Three

The first part, The Teal Mask, got a release date of September 13, 2023. This part of the DLC takes you on a school field trip to Kitakami outside of the Paldea region. Here you will find a story based on ancient folklore. There are many new and returning Pokemon to find in this Jungle-like region, including "the loyal three": Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. There is also Ogre Ousting, a balloon popping mini game that gives mochi as a reward. You can then use mochi to adjust the EVs of your Pokemon.

The second part fo the DLC, The Indigo Disk still has a vague release date of Winter 2023. It will feature a trip to a sister school, the Blueberry Academy. This school is mostly underwater, but features four unique biomes each containing many new and returning Pokemon not found in Paldea. New Mechanics and Pokemon Revealed for Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Pokemon

A new 14-minute gameplay showcase of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been released. Various new gameplay mechanics were shown, most notably the ability to Terastallize, which allows a Pokemon to transform into a new Terastal form. This can be done once per battle, and it temporarily changes the type of the Pokemon to match its Tera Type. Each individual Pokemon has its own Tera Type, it's not locked to that Pokemon species.

Another big new mechanic is TM crafting. There are crafting machines located inside Pokemon Centers, and you can use items that you pick up along your adventure to craft TMs to teach specific moves to your Pokemon. Crafting also consumes League Points, which is another resource that probably serves to lock more powerful TMs behind some game progression.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Farigarif

A new Pokemon was also revealed: Farigiraf. If it sounds familiar, it's because it's the new evolution to Girafarig. The new Pokemon is a Normal/Psychic-type just like it's pre-evolution. Its design seems to combine both the head and tail of Girafarig into a single head on Farigiraf.

A few other smaller gameplay elements were shown, like the ability to cmopletely customize your character and take your Pokemon on picnics. Check out the full details in this lengthy new trailer here:

The two titular legendaries were also revealed, Koraidon (Scarlet) and Miraidon (Violet). Party functionality for normal gameplay is another big feature announcement, giving you the ability to roam with up to 3 other trainers in the game at large, though this may be restricted to the wild area equivalent.

The news for this trailer also includes a heap of new characters, including a rival named Nemona and a unique professor for each version of the game. The professors are Professor Sada (Scarlet) and Professor Turo (Violet).

Other features included in these remakes include the fashion system from Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon Contests, and online battles in the Union Room.

Pokemon Legends Arceus Ruins Exploration

Players will be able to set out from the hub town, Jubilife Village, on expeditions to different areas of the Hisui region. Players will be able to catch passive Pokemon simply by throwing Pokeballs, while aggressive Pokemon will need to be battled in order to be caught.

Release Dates Announced for Both Upcoming Pokemon Games

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Logo

Earlier today The Pokémon Company revealed the release dates for both sets of upcoming Pokemon games. The pair of fourth generation remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be released this year on November 19, 2021. A double pack was also announced for those that are interested in a physical copy of both games.

Pokemon Brilliant Legends Arceus Screenshot

We also got a release date for the upcoming open world Sinoh adventure, Pokemon Legends Arceus. It will be coming to Switch early next year on January 28, 2022. This is a pleasant surprise, as we expected it would be released much later in the year.

No further information about either games was revealed, but E3 2021 is just around the corner. So stay tuned for upcoming information on these Pokemon adventures set in the Sinoh region.

Pokemon Legends Arceus is an Open World Sinnoh Prequel

Pokemon Legends Arceus Logo

In addition to the Gen 4 remakes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl announced during today's Pokemon Presents presentation, a Sinnoh prequel was also announced. Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be an open world Pokemon game coming to Switch that tells the origin story of the Sinnoh region.

Pokemon Legends Arceus Screenshot

In Pokemon Legends, you'll be able to catch Pokemon in the wild by physically sneaking up on them and throwing balls in 3D space. It appears that Pokemon Battles also take place in the open world to some degree. The open world centers around Mount Coronet and an ancient village before modern Sinnoh development.

While the concept and trailer are exciting, there remains a lot to be seen. Technical performance in the trailer appears quite poor for the time being, but we're a long ways from release so that could improve. Pokemon Legends: Arceus will launch for Switch in early 2022. Check out the reveal trailer below and stay tuned for more information!

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Remakes Coming to Switch this Year

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Logo

As was highly anticipated, The Pokemon Company announced remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl during today's Pokemon Presents presentation. They will be called Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl. They are set to be true remakes of the original games, and not part of the Let's Go series that features Pokemon GO mechanics. The pair of games will be released late this year, in celebration of Pokemon's 25th Anniversary.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Screenshot

As can be seen above, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature a chibi-like art style. This keeps the DS-era scale of the games while introducing a fresh new, albeit controversial, look. The remakes will be developed by ILCA under the direction of Game Freak and The Pokemon Company. Pokemon GO Transferring to Pokemon Home Coming in 2020

Pokemon Home Pokemon GO Transfer

The long awaited link between Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home is coming before the end of 2020. This feature will allow you to transfer Pokemon from any generation that you caught in Pokemon GO to Pokemon Home. This transfer will be one way, like most transfers from previous generation games are.

Whenever you make a transfer, you'll be able to open the Mystery Box in Pokemon GO and have the opportunity to catch a Meltan. In addition, the first time you make a transfer you'll also get a special Melmetal in Pokemon Home that is capable of Gigantimaxing in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

There are some additional restrictions. You'll need the paid ($15.99/year) Premium Plan in Pokemon Home in order to make these transfers. It also appears that there is some sort of cooldown for transferring that can be sped up by spending PokeCoins in Pokemon GO. Full details on that process have yet to be revealed.

Crown Tundra DLC Coming to Pokemon Sword and Shield on October 22

Pokemon Sword Shield Crown Tundra DLC

Some new details about the upcoming second DLC expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield were revealed via a special presentation today. The Crown Tundra DLC will be released and available for download on October 22, 2020. It follows June's Isle of Armor DLC and both can be purchased in a pass together for $29.99. It should be noted that you must buy a pass for your specific version of the game.

Pokemon Sword Shield Crown Tundra DLC

The Crown Tundra is a snowy area that features many mythic Pokemon and new galarian forms. The new adventure will be lead by Peony, who will be your chief that sets you on track for exploration. Over the course of this exploration, you'll be able to catch every legendary Pokemon available in main series Pokemon games.

A new feature called Dyanamax Adventures allows you to team up with 3 other players and each take 3 different Pokemon into special Max Raid dens. This is where many of the legendary Pokemon can be found. Several of these legendaries, including the three Kanto birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will have Galarian forms.

Pokemon Sword Shield Crown Tundra DLC

A new Galarian Star Tournament feature will allow you to team up with gym leaders and other trainers you've met in the Galar region. This will put you in a double battle tournament against other pairs of strong in-game trainers.

Starting on November 6, a new bundle that includes both the main series game and it's corresponding expansion pass (both DLCs) will be released in a physical form. Everything is on one cart but will cost $89.99, so there's no deal to be had here.

Like the Isle of Armor, the Crown Tundra DLC also expands the in-game National Pokedex by around 100 Pokemon. Once released, these Pokemon can be traded to any updated Pokemon Sword and Shield game, even if they don't have the DLC.

New Pokemon Snap Announced for Nintendo Switch

New Pokemon Snap

After over 20 years, the fan-favorite Pokemon spinoff Pokemon Snap will be getting a sequel. New Pokemon Snap will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch. No release date has been revealed, but given the scale of the game a release this year seems likely.

New Pokemon Snap

Not much was shown, but we did get a brief gameplay trailer (check it out below) and it looks like classic Pokemon Snap. Of course, now in HD and with far more than just first generation Pokemon. You'll be able to travel to different islands and snap pictures of Pokemon to fill out your photodex. Presumably, Professor Oak will be back to guide you on this quest and give you special photo tasks to complete for him.

It's great to see such a charming and appreciated spinoff series finally getting some more love. We'll be providing complete coverage of the game so stay tuned for more information and guides when the game releases on Nintendo Switch.

Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra Announced as Sword and Shield DLC

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC

The world of Pokemon is taking it's first dive into the world of DLC in the form of two expansion areas, as was announced in this week's Pokemon Direct. This Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC will come in two parts: Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Each will feature a large open world area to explore, new story and characters, and new and returning Pokemon, including some legendaries and new Galarian forms. The two parts can be purchased and downloaded as a single expansion pass for $30 and will be available starting in June.

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC

The first part of the expanion pass, coming in June, is called Isle of Armor and has the "growth" theme. The Isle of Armor itself is an open world island similar to the wild area. On it you'll find a few new Pokemon, including the new legendaries Kubfu and Urshifu. Kubfu is a Fighting-type that evolves into Urshifu. Urshifu changes type depending on two possible forms: the Fighting/Dark-type Single Strike Style or the Fighting/Water-type Rapid Strike Style.

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC

The Isle of Armor also features a new plot and a few new characters. One such character is Mustard, a former Pokemon League Champion. You'll also encounter a new rival that differs with the version of your game: the Poison-type Klara in Pokemon Sword and the Psychic-type Avery in Pokemon Shield.

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC

The second part of the expansion pass, coming this fall, is called The Crown Tundra. This is an arctic tundra open world area with a theme of "exploration". More new Pokemon will be featured in this expansion, including the new Grass/Pyschic-type legendary Calyrex.

The Crown Tundra will also feature Max Raid dens, similar to the Wild Area. You can join other players to explore these dens. Inside you can find a variety of new and returning Pokemon, including nearly every legendary from past generations. A few new Galarian forms of legendaries will also appear, including forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres and a few new Regi forms.

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC

A very important thing to note as that while those who haven't purchased the DLC won't be able to catch these new and returning Pokemon, they will be able to trade for them. You won't need to purchase the DLC to use them in your standard copies of Sword and Shield. You can also use Pokemon Home, once it launches in February, to bring over Pokemon that are introduced in these expansions.

Right now, without any purchase, you can head over to Wedgehurst Station to meet Klara or Avery. Here you'll get the opportunity to catch a Galarian Slowpoke. If you do decide to purchase the expansion pass, you can get codes for a Pikachu and Eevee uniform as soon as you do.

Of course, there is some controversy surrounding this announcement, as many feel that the full national dex should have been included in the game from the start, instead of locking some Pokemon behind paid DLC. Others are happy to see additional content in the form of DLC that is cheaper than the traditional third or upgraded games in a generation. Either way, the first part of this expansion, Isle of Armor will drop this June and both parts together can be downloaded from the eshop for $30.

Polteageist, Cramorant, and CurryDex Shown off in the Latest Nintendo Direct

Pokemon Sword Shield Polteageist

This week's Nintendo Direct brought with it a slew of new Pokemon Sword and Shield information. While we didn't get to see the starter evolutions that many were expecting, Nintendo did showcase a few new Pokemon alongside some other new game mechanics.

Pokemon Sword Shield Cramorant

The first new Pokemon is called Polteageist and is a Ghost-type. It's designed after a teapot and is apparently actually drinkable, which is a first in the Pokemon universe. A drinkable Pokemon. It also has the unique ability Weak Armor. The second new Pokemon is called Cramorant and is a Flying/Water type. It's a Pelican species and has an exclusive new ability: Gulp Missile. This ability allows Cramorant to counter if attacked while using the moves Surf or Dive.

The previously revealed Fairy type Alcremie was also shown in a few different forms. There are now over 25 forms that have been shown, with the two named "flavors" Vanilla and Matcha being showcased in the direct.

Pokemon Sword Shield Pokemon Camp

A new game mechanic is called Pokemon Camp. You'll be able to pitch a tent anywhere in the Galar region and have the opportunity to play with your Pokemon. It appears to be similar to various modes in previous games that let you pet, groom, and feed your Pokemon to grow a bond and level them up. If you make camp in the wild area, you can visit other player's camps as well.

Pokemon Sword Shield Curry Rice

A cooking mechanic was also showcased featuring a particular dish: Curry Rice. It seems that this is the preferred meal in the Galar region and there are over 100 different varities that can be cooked. The game is fully equipped with a CurryDex. This can be cooked while camping and requires ingredients like berries and sausages.

Pokemon Sword Shield Trainer Customization

The new way to customize your trainer was also featured. This system seems more robust than ever, with options to change tops, bottoms, gloves, shoes, outerwear, and the physical look of your trainer like makeup and hair. It appears this customization takes place in special shops and parlors.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are coming to Switch worldwide on November 15. You can check out all the new footage from the Nintendo Direct below. Stay tuned for the latest news and of course full guide coverage on release.

Pokemon Sword Shield Obstagoon

Pokemon Sword Shield Morpeko

In addition to Galarian Forms, there was another form-changing Pokemon revealed: Morpeko. This Electric/Dark mouse-like pokemon will have a Full Belly mode and a Hangry mode. The mode will affect the typing of some of Morpeko's moves.

Pokemon Sword Shield Team Yell

Two new rivals were also revealed: Bede and Marnie. A new team was shown as well: Team Yell. The design is very goth/punk and they are described as Marnie's biggest fans, who appears in a similar style.

Not shown in the trailer was a new mechanic called Poke Jobs. This mechanic allows you to send Pokemon on quests where they will level up and collect rare items. Different Pokemon are better suited for different jobs.

We received a lot of new information from the June 5 Pokemon Direct and the E3 2019 direct about Pokemon Sword and Shield versions. It's seems like it's about time to dive into everything we know about the pair of games so far.

Pokemon Sword Shield Screenshot

In case you know knothing about the new games, Sword and Shield are brand new generation 8 entries in the series. Taking place in the Galar region, the three starters are Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

During the Pokemon Direct, we learned that the pair of games will release worldwide on November 15, 2019. One new mechanic is Dynamax, which is somewhat of a replacement for Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. Pokemon turn giant and become more powerful, and this can only be done once per battle. Gym battles will take place in giant arenas and their Pokemon will Dynamax.

Pokemon Sword Shield Screenshot

You can also take on Dynamaxed Wild Pokemon in what is known as a Max Raid Battle. You can have 3 other players join you to take on these powerful wild Pokemon. You'll then each have an opportunity to catch them. This is typically the only way these particular Pokemon can be obtained.

A little Galar Lore: Professor Magnolia is the professor in Galar, she has a grandaughter and assistant named Sonia. The champion of the region is called Leon, and he has a younger brother named Hop who will be your rival. Two of the gym leaders have been shown off: The Grass type Leader Milo and the Water type Leader Nessa.

Pokemon Sword Shield Screenshot

There's a new Wild Area. Here, Pokemon roam the overwold, Let's Go style. Availability of Pokemon will change with time of day, location, and weather. These areas are vast and open world, with lots of terrain to explore.

Pokemon Sword Shield Screenshot

On a rather dissapointing note, it was also revealed that there won't be a national dex in the generation 8 games, and that this is a permanent change moving forward. Game Freak claims that it isn't sustainable. There will be a Switch app that can be used to transfer Pokemon, but if the Pokemon isn't on the regional Pokedex, it can't be transferred to the game. This means it will be impossible to "catch 'em all" in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Finally, many new Pokemon have been revealed, including the title legendary dogs Zacian and Zamazenta. Here they are:

Eighth Gen Games Pokemon Sword and Shield Announced for Holiday 2019

Pokemon Sword and Shield Logo

Pokemon Sword and Shield. Who would of guessed those would be the next Pokemon games? They take place in a brand new region: Galar. It looks to be based in England, but that's not confirmed. In the video, we saw a variety of previous generation Pokemon available, confirming that you'll be able to find them in the region. The only new Pokemon revealed were the three starters: Grookey, the Grass-type chimp Pokemon, Scorbunny, the Fire-type bunny Pokemon, and Sobble the Water-type lizard Pokemon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Starters

The games look quite spectacular in HD. They appear to be a traditional fixed-angle Pokemon expirience, and not open world with a free camera like some suspected. We did mention the games are coming exclusively to Switch, right? Hopefully that was obvious, but you never know with the Pokemon company. They'll be dropping in time for the holidays this year, late 2019. We'll surely be drip-fed new information about the region and Pokemon as the year goes on, so stay tuned. The direct also mentioned that they had a lot planned for Pokemon this year, so this might not be the only pair of games we're getting. Here's the trailer:

Everything We Know About Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee After E3 2018

Let's Go Pikachu Logo

E3 2018 shed some new light on the upcoming Pokémon games, Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. We saw plenty of gameplay and now have a better idea about how some of the game's mechanics work. It was also announced that a bundle with the Poké Ball Plus controller will launch for $99.99 alongside the games on November 16, 2018.

Below is what we've found out about the games since the beginning of E3. If you want some basic information about the game, check our our previous article about the announcement of the games.

  • Catching Pokemon is done in a similar fashion to Pokémon Go, you'll be using motion controls to toss a Pokéball at a Pokémon. No need to weaken it at all. Whether you miss or not is based on the timing of your throw.
  • Experience points are gained from catching Pokémon and distributed evenly amongst your party. Better throws earn more Exp. when catching.
  • A second player can join you in co-op by shaking their Joy-con controller.
  • The size of a wild Pokémon can be determined by the color of its aura when seen in the overworld. Effects on gameplay are not yet known.
  • Pikachu or Eevee, depending on your version, will shake their tail if you're near a hidden item in the overworld.
  • An overhaul of the stats system seems to have taken place. All of a Pokemon's stats will start out the same and can be altered with various candies.
  • Pokémon can be transferred from Pokémon Go after a certain point in the game. It appears that your Pokémon will be in the Lv. 30-40 range when this happens.
  • When transferred from Pokémon Go, Pokémon will be held at an in-game location called Go Park. You'll then need to catch them from the park, sort of like a Safari Zone.
  • You'll be rewarded with candy in Pokémon Go for transferring Pokemon to the Let's Go games.
  • Pokémon can be stored on the new Poké Ball controller called the Poké Ball Plus. If you pre-order this controller it will come with the legendary Mew already on it.

If you're still not satisfied with the information you have, make sure to check out some gameplay from E3 below and let us know if we missed anything!

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eeevee Versions Officially Announced

Let's Go Pikachu Logo

Rumors about Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eeevee first appeared at the beginning of April and gained some credibility over the past couple weeks. Today, they became official. The pair of Let's Go games will be coming to the Switch on November 16, 2018. These games are being called mainline RPGs by Nintendo, but lack some traditional elements and aren't a new generation of games.

Here's everything we know about the new games so far:

  • The games are set in Kanto. Think of them as psuedo-remakes of Yellow version. They feature only the original 151 Pokémon. Here's a comparison video if you're keen on seeing how familiar Kanto landscapes look in the Let's Go games.
  • Pikachu and Eevee are the games' only starters. Even cuter, Pikachu will ride on your shoulder and Eevee will ride on your head in the overworld. Presumably Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander are still obtainable, but we're not quite sure how.
  • Pokemon are visible in the overworld. This means no random encounters in tall grass and caves. Just like the starters, some of your party Pokemon can follow you around. Many larger Pokémon can be ridden as well, so there will be no HMs.
  • You can only catch Pokémon with motion controls. Here's a controversial one. Catching Pokemon works in a similar fashion to Pokémon Go, which these games of course are heavily tied to. Motion controls are your only option, using either the Joy Con or a new Pokéball controller, pictured below. The entire game can actually be played with this new controller.
  • Trainer battles are pretty standard. It doesn't look like much has changed here. You'll still get 6 Pokémon in your party that can be used to battle trainers in the overworld. These battles will still be turn-based and each Pokemon can learn 4 moves.
  • Local co-op is available. Another player can join at any time and use a Joy con to play. They can assist with battles and catching Pokémon. There's still only one save file per Switch account.
  • There's Pokemon Go integration. Kanto Pokemon (the original 151) can be transferred directly from Pokémon Go to the Let's Go games. This transfer is over bluetooth (Smartphone to Switch), so the process should be very simple. Hopefully batch transfers are an option.
  • Version exclusives are present
  • . This means some Pokémon can only be found and caught in Let's Go Pikachu, and some are only available in Let's Go Eevee. We'll have more information about which Pokemon can be found in each game closer to release. All are obtainable in each game via trades and trasnfer, as always.

That's all we know so far about the Let's Go games. As always, stay tuned for more information as the release approaches. E3 is only two weeks away, so we may get new information sooner rather than later. We'll also have a full walkthrough and a variety of other strategy guides available upon release of the games.

New Detective Pikachu Trailer and amiibo, Game out March 23

Detective Pikachu Logo

In last week's Nintendo Direct, we didn't quite get the news about the upcoming Pokémon RPG on Switch we were hoping for. However, we did get a new trailer for Detective Pikachu, which is coming to 3DS on March 23. The game is now available for pre-purchase on the eShop. You can check out the full trailer below if you'd like.

Detective Pikachu Amiibo

In addition to another look at the fast-approaching game, we also got news of an amiibo releasing the same day. It'll be a plus-sized Detective Pikachu amiibo, pictured above. Because of the amiibo is so large, the price tag appears to be as well. The MSRP for the amiibo is $29.99, you can check it out on Amazon if you're interested.

Pokemon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon Review

It was different enough without being completely alienating. But now a younger team has come forth with an alternate timeline taking the events of Sun and Moon in a new direction. Do their efforts with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon go above ultra? Or have they squandered a perfect opportunity?

Nintendo Confirms a Pokemon RPG is Coming to Switch

Pokemon Logo

Last week's Pokémon Direct left many fans dissapointed: the rumored Pokémon Stars was not shown off for the Switch. Rather, we got news of Pokken Tournament DX on Switch and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for 3DS. However, during their E3 direct, Nintendo silenced our fears by confirming that a main series RPG was currently in development and being built from the ground up for Switch. They also mentioned that we wouldn't see it for at least year, so a Holiday 2018 or 2019 release seem likely.

Although we know very little about what it will be, presumably a new generation of Pokémon, it's exciting to know that Pokemon games will be in development for the "home" console. Until then, we've got plenty of both Pokémon and Switch to enjoy! For more news on Nintendo's E3 presentation, check out our sister site Nintendo Castle.

Pokken Tournament DX is Coming to Switch in September

Pokken Tournament DX Logo

Alongside the announcement of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for 3DS in today's Pokémon Direct, the newly released Nintendo Switch also got a little love. The Wii U's Pokken Tournament is coming to the Switch in the form Pokken Tournament DX. The game will release exclusively for Switch on September 22, 2017. Pokken Tournament Deluxe will include everything from the original game as well as five additional playable fighters: Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and Decidueye. Additional online features will also be present in the deluxe version. Make sure to stay tuned, especially with E3 next week, for more news. You can also check out the full Pokémon Direct below.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Announced for 3DS

Pokemon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon

In a Pokémon Direct earlier today, two new main series Pokémon games for Nintendo 3DS were announced. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be releasing globally on November 17, 2017. The games were described as enhanced versions of last year's Pokemon Sun and Moon versions. They apparently will take place in an alternate universe and will feature a number of new Pokémon. Nothing else is known about the games and how different from the original Generation 7 games they will be. You can check out the full Pokémon Direct below for some footage of the games in action.

It seems that the developers at Game Freak are once again taking the Black 2 and White 2 approach instead of the "third installment" that was popular before Generation 5. It is a little disappointing that the games won't be coming to the Switch as the rumored Pokémon Stars, but the decision makes sense when you look at the history of Pokémon releases. We'll surely get a main series Pokémon game on the Switch before too long, whether it be a remake of Diamond and Pearl or an entirely new Generation 8 pair of games. Will you be picking up Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon even though they aren't coming to Switch?

Water Festival and Shiny Magikarp Come to Pokemon GO

Still playing Pokémon GO? If so, you'll be happy to hear that a Water Festival event is taking place from now until March 29. The event, in correspondence with World Water Day, will give players an opportunity to catch a number of water Pokemon that might be otherwise hard to find. Water Pokemon will spawn much more frequently, but they will still be limited to areas where water Pokemon typically spawn.

Specific Pokemon that this event features include the starter Pokemon Squirtle and Totodile and their evolutions. Lapras is also getting special treatment as well as Magikarp and Gyarados. Although Magikarp might not sound very exciting at first, there will also be the potential to catch a Shiny Magikarp, the first official shiny in Pokemon GO.

Are you still playing Pokemon GO, or do you think it was just a trend? Are these kind of themed events enough to make you pull your smartphone out? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for more Pokemon coverage!
