Chapter 4: Celadon City Gym
Part 4: Celadon City Gym
Route 11
Exit the gym and head north and you'll quickly run into Misty. Let her take you to Diglett's Cave. You can enter right away, or you can battle some trainers on Route 11 first. The first trainer on this route is Coach Trainer Will and his Lv. 21 Rattata. If you defeat him, you'll get 5 Pikachu/Eevee Candies. This route is pretty simple, the following trainers can be battled: Sailor Dirk, Youngster Eddie, Gentleman Wilco, Engineer Bernie, Engineer Braxton, Gamer Hugo, Sailor Yasu, and Lass Tomoe. Items that you can find are: 5 Great Balls, a Super Repel, a Lure, a Super Potion, and an X Defense. A Snorlax block your path to the right, so head back to Diglett's Cave.
Diglett's Cave
Diglett's Cave is pretty straightforward, you can simply make your way through the straight tunnel and you'll find yourself back on Route 2. Head south and Professor Oak's assistant will stop you. Follow him inside and he'll teach your partner Pokemon the secret technique Light Up. Back outside, you'll run into your rival. Let him take you to the place he's talking about. Chop down the tree and head east onto Route 9.
Route 9
Start off by battling Picnicker Alicia. Head southwest to face off against Hiker Jeremy and pick up a Super Potion. Head back north and wrap around to the left to battle Bug Catcher Conner and pick up an Ether. Take the lower path here and face Hiker Alan. Head back left and follow the upper path to battle Camper Drew and Youngster Chris. You can also pick up the Super Potion and 5 Poke Balls. Continue to the right on the upper path to face Black Belt Brice and Picnicker Caitlin. Head east onto Route 10.
Route 10
Head to the right of the tall grass to pick up a Super Potion. Head south for a bit and Team Rocket will ambush you. A lady named Lorelei will come in and help you out, but you'll still need to defeat one Team Rocket Grunt. Heal up at the Pokemon Center and then battle Camper Vance and Coach Trainer Tasha. She has a Lv. 25 Poliwhirl and a Lv. 26 Primeape. As a reward for beating her, you'll get TM13 - Brick Break. You can also pick up the 3 Great Balls and 5 Poke Balls here.
Rock Tunnel
Enter the cave entrance into Rock Tunnel. Head east for a bit to find a Repel. Head back south and battle Poke Maniac Ashton. Circle back around and use the ladder to go down a floor in the cave. Head left to battle Poke Maniac Winston. To the left of him you'll find a Revive. Head back north to battle Black Belt Dudley and get a Dire Hit. A bit more to the north you can battle a Hiker and Black Belt Eric and pick up 3 Great Balls.
Take the ladder up a floor and battle Camper Lenny. You can also battle Hiker Lenny and Hiker Claus and pick up an Escape Rope on this floor. Head down a floor using the ladder. Battle Poke Maniac Cooper and pick up a Full Heal to the north. Head southwest and battle Ace Tainer Sofia. Continue south from here to battle Ace Trainer Charlie and pick up a Stardust. Head back northwest and defeat Black Belt Steve. Grab the Super Potion to the south and head back north up the ladder.
Battle Picnicker Leah and Camper Leroy and pick up another Super Potion. Head south and take a quick detour northward to pick up a Stardust before battling Picnicker Dana to the west. On the far west side of this area you'll find a Pearl in an item ball. Exit the cave onto Route 10. Take the right side of the fork to battle Picnicker Carol and a Camper. On the left side, you'll battle Hiker Clark and Poke Maniac Damian and pick up 3 Great Balls.
Lavendar Town
As soon as you enter Lavendar Town, a brief cutscene will appear where your rival follows a Cubone into a tower. Heal up, then enter Pokemon Tower. Speak to the old lady on the couch to get the Formal Set of clothing for yourself and your partner. Head up the stairs and stay on the lower route to find an Elixir. Now take the upper path for a battle with your rival. He'll have a Lv. 27 Pidgeotto, a Lv. 27 Gloom, and a Lv. 28 partner.
Grab the X Attack and battle Coach Trainer Holly. She has a Lv. 28 Geodude. As a reward for winning, you'll be rewarded with 5 Partner Candies. Head up the stairs and you'll see what appears to be a ghost. If a ghost catches you, you'll be returned to the first floor. Stay on the lower path here to battle Channeler Patricia. In the middle area you can battle Channeler Carly and pick up a Super Potion. At the top of the room you can battle Channeler Hope and pick up an Awakening. Head up the stairs to the right.
You'll find a Escape Rope behind a gravestone right in front of you. Then battle Channeler Paula and Channeler Jody and pick up TM04 - Teleport in the center area. You can then battle Channeler Laurel and get a Full Heal at the top of the room if you'd like. Take the stairs up a floor and take the top of the room for a battle with Channeler Ruth and a Nugget. You can also battle Channeler Tammy, Channeler Janae, and Channeler Karina and pick up an Ice Stone. The emblem in the center is a space to heal your Pokemon. Once you do so, head to the next floor.
Here you can battle Channeler Emilia, Channeler Angelica, Channeler Jennifer, and pick up a Revive, a Hyper Potion, and 3 Ultra Balls. When you get to the center of this room, you'll be stopped by a giant ghost. We can't get any further up the tower, so just get caught by a ghost to quickly exit. Once outside, head west and you'll run into Jesse and James from Team Rocket. They'll take Cubone with them to Celadon City, so that's where we need to go next.
Route 8
Head west onto Route 8. Continue forward on the path until you're stopped by a battle with Beauty Aubrey. You can cut down the tree here to get a Fire Stone and battle Ace Trainer Kyla. Above the fence you can battle a Gamer, Super Nerd Aidan, and Rocker Glenn and pick up an X Speed. A bit further along the path you'll run into Gamer Stan. You can wrap around some cliffs to find a Big Mushroom.
You can battle Lass Andrea and another Lass as well as a Super Nerd at the end of the route. Enter the underground path and continue straight along it, picking up the X Accuracy and X Defense along the way. Outside on Route 7, you can battle Ace Trainer Yvette. You can also take on Coach Trainer Alpesh, who has a Lv. 29 Farfetch'd and a Lv. 30 Wigglytuff. If you defeat him, you'll get TM12 - Facade. Head west into Celadon City.
Celadon City
Heal up at the Pokemon Center and then take the path behind it. Back here you can find a Nugget to the right, a Rare Candy to the left, and TM44 - Play Rough if you take the center path and go to the top floor of the building. Wrap back around in front of the Pokemon Center and continue on the path until you meet up with Brock. He'll give you some Pewter Crunchies and Tea. There's some other things to explore in the city, but we can actually head straight for the gym.
Celadon City Gym
Heal up and cut the tree down at the south end of town. Take the path to the west to find the gym. You'll need a cute Pokemon to enter (Pikachu or Eevee will work). This is a Grass-type gym, so Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, or Bug are all super effective. There's a number of optional trainers you can face before taking only the gym leader: Lass Kay, Beauty Mai, Picnicker Tina, Beauty Tamia, Beauty Lori, Ace Trainer Mary, and Lass Lina. You can avoid any or all of these trainers if you'd like. Just follow the path and cut down trees when needed, staying towrads the center of the room if there's a fork in the path.
Gym Leader Erika specializes in Grass-type Pokemon. We recommend a Bug or Flying type, which are very easy to find up to this point. She'll have a Lv. 33 Tangela, a Lv. 33 Weepinbell, and a Lv. 34 Vileplume. If you've been following along with us and defeating every trainer, your team should be plenty strong enough to defeat her with ease, especially with type advantage. As a reward for winning, you'll receive the Rainbow Badge and TM53 - Mega Drain.
